YAY I did it!  The challenge was set by Connie Green, an online business coach.  The rules were that each article or blog post was to have 150 words and you needed to post 30 articles 30 days, however you can post more than one article on a given day. The last rule was good for me as I didn’t hear of the challenge till day 7.</p>
<p>The goal to write 30 articles was definitely achievable, but it was also a stretch since I would usually only write 4 articles that time period. As with all goals or challenges you embrace, when they are completed, not only do you feel great about the set goal, there are also additional benefits that you might not have known about at the onset. During the 30 day blog challenge my additional benefits included connecting with new people who were also doing the challenge, making writing a daily habit which in turn meant that any mental resistance I felt towards writing disappeared and I really began to enjoy writing articles in a way I never had before.</p>
<p>Why not set yourself an ADHD 30 day challenge? Whether it&#8217;s exercising, taking Omega 3 or decluttering for 15 minutes every day. Whatever it is I guarantee when you have finished you will feel really awesome.</p>

If your inner voice is constantly telling you negative messages, this results in you feeling bad about yourself and your self-esteem is low. Start to pay attention to what your inner voice is saying. What messages are you telling yourself? Are you positive and encouraging or do your berate yourself and talk meanly? Usually how you talk to yourself is so rude that you would never talk like that to any other human being.</p>
<p>We want your inner voice to be your biggest supporter. Be positive, encouraging, reassuring and congratulatory. It’s impossible to catch everything you say to yourself as some thoughts are so fleeting. However when you are aware you have said something negative or mean to yourself, take a moment to counter it with a positive comment. Gradually, you will find yourself speaking more kindly to yourself and this has a wonderful ripple effect of how you feel about yourself and how you operate in the world on a daily basis.</p>

It&#8217;s a reminder that their life isn&#8217;t where they want it to be compared to the lives of their non ADD friends. <span> </span>It could be that they are really bad at remembering other peoples birthdays, so don&#8217;t feel theirs deserves to be remembered.  Or, the universal concern, that they don&#8217;t like how the passing of years is affecting their body. Or maybe, their self esteem is low and don&#8217;t feel they want to have a lot of fuss. Birthdays are symbolic and worthy of celebrating. It&#8217;s a chance to celebrate your life, so why not create an extra special day for yourself?  </p>
<p>In the western world birthdays are often celebrated with cakes, gifts, flowers, cards and balloons. However it is your day, so you get to choose how to celebrate it to reflect your own tastes and style.   Here are some ideas how you can start to enjoy your birthdays again.</p>
<div>1. Take the day off work.</div>
<p>2. Take a few minutes to reflect on your last year achievements, things that you did, experienced, etc. You will always be surprised at how much you did.  </p>
<p>3. Plan some things you would like to do in the next year, start a new hobby, etc.  </p>
<p>4. Allow others to pamper and spoil you. </p>
<p>5. Have a birthday party so that you can be with those that you love the most. It&#8217;s fine to host it for yourself.  </p>
<p>6. Create a wonderful memory on your birthday. Do something that you will remember forever. </p>
<p>7. Think back to when you were little, what did you look forward to about your birthday? A birthday cake? Balloons? Whatever it was make sure you include that in your day this year.</p>
<p>8. Today is the day that others get to show you how special you are to them. No matter how hard this is for you, let them. </p>
<p>9.  If noticing your body aging is upsetting you check out <span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://www.realage.com/">www.realage.com</a></span> This will empower you to start turning back the aging clock.  </p>
<p>10. If you feel you are behind in life, write down the areas of your life that give you this feeling. This will give you a base to take action. For example, if you write financial, book an appointment with a financial adviser to create plan.  </p>
<p>When you celebrate your day, make it special for yourself, as well as enjoying the attention from your loved ones. <span> </span>You will feel loved and rejuvenated and ready to make the next year an incredible one.</p>

<p>From a distance, the holiday season looks great – full of warmth, laughter, cosy family time, beautiful decorations and delicious food. However, as an <a href="../adult-adhd">adult with ADHD</a>, you know this time of year can be highly <a href="../5-little-known-ways-to-mange-stress">stressful</a>. You have to coordinate and incorporate a lot of extra things into your already busy life. Keeping a tidy, clean house (for guests), money management (lots of extra expenses), planning ahead, organizing events and travel arrangements, managing your time and keeping in check perfectionist and <a href="../adult-adhd-procrastination">procrastination</a> tendencies could be a potential nightmare. But it doesn’t have the be. The key to enjoying the holidays is to find balance. Do enough so that you enjoy and celebrate the holidays, yet not TOO much that you are frazzled, burned out and in debt.</p>
<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-2383" title="5 adhd tips for happy holidays" src="http://untappedbrilliance.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/candycane.jpg" alt="candycane5 ADHD Tips for Happy Holidays" width="300" height="141" />Here are a 5 tips for a balanced holiday season:</p>
<p>1. Spend a few minutes now thinking of five things YOU would like to do this year. What makes the holidays fun and memorable for you? What would you feel sad about if it didn’t happen? Here is my list. After I have these musts, anything and everything else is a bonus.</p>
<ul>
<li>Decorate a real tree (love the smell of a tree)</li>
<li>Spend time with my family (parents and siblings)</li>
<li>Send out Christmas cards (great way to keep in touch with friends I don’t see very often)</li>
<li>Wrap presents in gold and red with lots of ribbon</li>
<li>Buy a new Santa for my Santa collection</li>
</ul>
<p>Your list might include building a snowman, drinking hot chocolate, attending midnight mass, eating a particular food, singing carols, watching a favourite Christmas movie, going to see “The Nutcracker” ballet, donating time to charity, baking cookies, the list is endless…</p>
<p>2. Print out a calendar of December and write down any social engagements you have already, then allocate time for your list of 5 things. Use the following list to help as a reminder of other things your holidays might include and pop them on your calendar. This will help you to not overschedule and allow time to do the things that are important to you.<strong><br />
Shopping</strong><br />
<strong> </strong>Gifts<br />
Food<br />
Party outfits <strong></strong></p>
<p>Entertaining<br />
Making sure your home looks great for visitors<br />
Planning and preparing tasty food</p>
<p><strong>Holiday preparation<br />
</strong>Writing and sending Christmas cards<br />
Wrapping gifts<br />
Putting up decorations</p>
<p><strong>Traveling<br />
</strong>Arranging flights and road trips</p>
<p><strong>Coordinating your social calendar<br />
</strong>Including parties, family get-togethers, drinking with friends</p>
<p><strong>Finances<br />
</strong>Managing the extra expense of these activities</p>
<p>3. Remember: <strong>Balance Is Key</strong>. Your goal is to embrace the holidays without going crazy. It’s okay to say no to some invitations that aren’t appealing to you. Don’t feel you need to spend too much money on each person… it really is the thought that counts. Set a budget for the holidays. That way you won’t feel guilty about spending money nor will you over spend.Repeat this mantra: <strong>Good is good enough</strong>. Whenever you feel like your perfectionist tendencies are getting in the way, remember, you aren’t Martha Stewart or Brie on “Desperate Housewives.” It is better to have shown up, baked a cake, sent out some cards, etc., than getting so hung up on perfection that you don’t do anything.</p>
<p>4. Make normal/boring activities into special ones. Why not take yourself to Starbucks, order a Christmas drink and sit with your address book, Christmas cards and stamps and write your cards? While wrapping presents, put on a Christmas movie or some Christmas tunes to really get you in the festive mood.</p>
<p>5. Whatever the holidays have in store for you this year, <a href="../have-yourself-some-fun"><strong>HAVE FUN</strong></a><strong>!!!! </strong>Enjoy what you are doing and try not to worry about what you still have to do or haven’t done. Five years from now, you won’t remember the logistics. What you will remember is the time you spend with the people who are dearest to you.<br />
